Before you proceed:

Humanitarian photography has close ties to colonialism. Material that photographers are asked to produce on assignments, and especially material that get published, usually emphazises otherness. Pain and struggle of the other is often thought to help to raise awareness of certain issues or raise funds for good causes, but it can also damage the way we see, think and eventually treat each other.

NGO’s have their own narratives. Please remember that there’s always a whole another world beyond humanitarian imagery. A way more complex, a way more ordinary, a way more diverse, a way more absurd, a way more beautiful and a way more real. Keep that in mind also when scrolling through these sets.

Hey NGOs, just a quick reminder; please always check the availability of local professionals when planning to hire a freelancer. If you say you work for equality, then act like you mean it.
